Medium Chemical Peel for Acne Scars and Deep Wrinkles

July 6, 2015 by Steele Creek Dermatology

When it comes to the signs of aging, your face is ground zero. Whether you have been exposed to years of sun damage, environmental factors or tough bouts of acne, the result can be deep wrinkles and acne scars that prematurely age your face.

If you are tired of looking at the signs of aging in your reflection, there is a simple solution. Medium chemical peels are an effective way to remove the upper layer of damaged skin on your face to give you dramatic results. You can avoid the cost and risk of surgery while looking refreshed and alert.

What is a Medium Chemical Peel?

A medium chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that is minimally invasive. It involves peeling away the outer layer of skin on your face using a diluted chemical solution of varying strengths. A medium chemical peel typically uses a form of acid known as trichloroacetic acid. The solution of this acid is applied to the targeted area of the face and left on for approximately fifteen minutes. An entire treatment lasts thirty minutes. When larger areas are treated, a session could last an hour. Several treatments may be necessary and are typically spaced out over a three-month period.

What to Expect During a Medium Chemical Peel

The first step of a chemical peel is cleansing your skin thoroughly. After your session of fifteen to thirty minutes, the chemical solution will be washed away with water, and an ointment or moisturizer will be applied to protect your new layer of skin.

Recovery from a Medium Chemical Peel

You can expect some discomfort after a medium chemical peel. Your skin may be red, form a crusty layer, and flake off. You will have no down time and can use a common pain reliever for any discomfort after your procedure.

Are You a Candidate for a Medium Chemical Peel?

If you have serious scarring from acne or deep wrinkles, a medium chemical peel may reduce the appearance of these skin conditions. However, if you tend to scar easily or have severe allergies, an alternative treatment may be recommended. If you have had radiation treatments, your skin may not rejuvenate easily, and you may be advised to wait before undergoing a peel.
