Using a Chemical Peel for Acne Scars

April 2, 2018 by

chemical peel

A chemical peel for acne scars can improve your skin texture and tone by removing the damaged outer layers of the skin with a special solution. The professionals at Steele Creek Dermatology offer various types of chemical peels to address different skin conditions.

Basic Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are generally categorized as light, moderate, and deep peels. Light peels such as alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and beta hydroxy acid (BHA) are primarily used to treat uneven skin tone and other superficial condition.  After all, they don’t penetrate beyond the first epidermal layer of the skin.

The medium peels, meanwhile, target the outer and middle layers of skin, making them ideal for treating fine wrinkles, age spots, and mild acne scars. The third type is called a deep peel.  As its name implies, the solution penetrates deeper into the middle layer of skin, making this a potent solution for acne-caused shallow scars and severe signs of photoaging.

The Results of a Peel for Acne Scars

Afte chemical peels, the new layer of skin will appear within a few days.  And by weeks, the skin is fully healed.  Deeper peels, meanwhile, produce the most dramatic results, although they require the longest healing time.  By removing the outer layers of skin, you can expect that your shallow acne scars, pigmentations, and other imperfections are gone or at least drastically minimized.

Preparation

Be ready to discuss your medical history, which will include your past and current health conditions, use of drugs and supplements, and skincare regimen. Before a Chemical Peels Charlotte for acne treatment, our dermatologist will inspect your skin, particularly of the treatment area.  This will help our doctor identify the most ideal type and depth of peel based on your underlying anatomies, particularly relating to the tone and thickness of your skin.
