Combat Signs of Aging with BOTOX

November 2, 2015 by

botox

You’ve probably heard of BOTOX® injections and know that this cosmetic treatment is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It accomplishes this by temporarily paralyzing muscle activity beneath them.

If you’re looking for a safe, reliable method to combat the signs of aging, consider BOTOX®.

What BOTOX® Treats

BOTOX® works by blocking chemical signals from reaching the nerves. The result is the relaxation of those muscles, reducing the line or crease of the skin above.

Areas often treated with BOTOX® include crow’s feet in the corners of the eyes, frown lines between eyebrows, and horizontal furrows of the forehead.

Possible Risks

BOTOX® has proven to be a rather safe procedure, but it does have some common side effects. You may experience bruising at the site of injection, along with a headache.

What to Expect

First, you’ll attend a consultation. During this time, the doctor will want to learn about your past medical history and the issues you’d like to treat. Be sure to mention if you’ve had BOTOX® within the last four months. You’ll also be asked about the medicine you’ve taken or are currently taking. Examples may include blood thinners, allergy pills, muscle relaxants or sleep aids.

There should be very little discomfort during the procedure, but pain relief is available in the form of a cold numbing spray, prescription cream or injections. Very small amounts of BOTOX® will be injected into your skin with a thin needle. The number you will need all depends upon your particular procedure and the areas to be treated.

You can expect to return to your ordinary routine immediately after treatment. It is important not to rub or touch the treated area so that you don’t spread the medication, allowing it to migrate to other areas.

You should begin to see results just a few days after your treatment. The length of results varies, usually between three months and a year. Follow-up sessions will be needed for maintenance.

If you’re troubled by the signs of aging, BOTOX® may be the treatment for you. To schedule a consultation, contact Steele Creek Dermatology. We have extensive experience helping patients with their cosmetic needs. We invite you to share your goals and concerns during the consultation. We will be able to develop a treatment plan suitable for your needs. BOTOX® is a convenient, practically pain-free and safe method to beat those pesky signs of aging. Get started today.
