The Benefits of Seeing a Board-Certified Dermatologist

February 5, 2018 by

Board-Certified Dermatologist

Every day, people wake up with all sorts of issues involving their skin, hair, and nails. For some, it is a rash that covers their face and runs down the length of their chest. Others might have a chronic case of eczema. Someone else might suffer from a fungal infection of one of their nails. When home remedies prove to do nothing to resolve these issues, these individuals start looking for help that is more of a professional nature. That means turning to Google in search of a dermatologist in their area. Unfortunately, it can be a little daunting knowing which dermatologist is good and which are just so-so.  A dermatologist is a bit more specialized than a general practitioner, and this can make it harder for them to make an informed decision. When in doubt, one of the best things to take into consideration is that, when it comes to choosing a dermatologist, a dermatologist who is board certified is typically going to be far more experienced than one who is not. The following are some benefits to choosing a board-certified dermatologist, such as Dr. Jennifer Helton at Steele Creek Dermatology.

They Must Meet Minimal Education Requirements

A board-certified dermatologist is, by all accounts, typically more educated than a dermatologist that is not board certified. Board certification is not an easy status to acquire, and there are minimal education requirements before a dermatologist can be considered for such an achievement. So, when it comes to choosing a doctor who is going to be in charge of improving a patient’s appearance and ensuring their treatment is on course to improve their health as well, the board-certified dermatologist is the person to see.

Ongoing Education

Aside from all the minimal education requirements, a board-certified dermatologist must also keep up with all the latest advancements in their field. They must also adhere to a rigorous regimen of continuing education. This is a benefit to their patients, because, unlike a dermatologist who is not board certified, a board-certified dermatologist is not going to be stuck using older, less effective treatment methods. Many newer treatment methods for dermatological issues are far more effective than those used in the past, so when a patient’s health and appearance are at issue, it is best to have access to all the latest treatment options for best results.

A Higher Ethical Standard

As you would expect from anyone in a greater position of power, with a greater position comes a greater degree of accountability. In the field of dermatology, this means that dermatologists who are board certified are held to a much higher ethical standard than dermatologists who are not board certified. For those who prefer to work with highly ethical medical professionals, working with a board-certified dermatologist is certainly the way to go. It is also a way for the patient to have peace of mind that the doctor they are working with has their best interests in mind.
