4 Signs You Need to See a Dermatologist Right Away

April 1, 2020 by

Dermatologist

The human skin is the largest organ in the human body and is the most visible. As we age, we are able to see just how much the skin changes due to the rigors of daily life. It is important to take care of your skin. One way to do that is by scheduling an appointment with the team at Steele Creek Dermatology in Charlotte, North Carolina. But how do you know when is the right time to schedule an appointment? Here are four signs that you need to see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

4 Signs You Need to See a Dermatologist Right Away

1. Moles

The appearance of moles in most instances is not a cause for concern. Moles are a fairly common occurrence in the human body. However it is important to note the difference between normal and abnormal moles. Normal moles tend to be flat, round-shaped, brown, and remain the same size over the course of time. Abnormal moles tend to change in size, shape, and color. If you notice any fluctuations in the appearance of a mole(s), it is a clear sign that you need to see a dermatologist.

2. Sun Damage

Frequent and unprotected exposure to the sun can lead to sun damage. The ultraviolet radiation from the sun can sometimes give the skin the appearance of being prematurely aged. Sun damage can be determined by red, uneven splotches on the skin, rough and scaly skin, wrinkles and facial lines. If you notice any of these conditions, be sure to consult with a dermatologist to be sure you are not suffering from sun damage.

3. Signs of Skin Cancer

It is important to be diligent in checking your skin frequently for any signs of skin cancer. Being able to distinguish between different types of marks, spots, and patches on your skin can be a key part of early detection. While moles, bumps, and areas of dry skin are not indicators of cancer alone, it is still important to remain alert and check for any changes that may occur. If you notice any changes, be sure to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist to get an in-depth diagnosis.

4. Acne

Acne is not just a condition that afflicts young adults going through puberty. Acne can also appear later in life. As seen in pubescent teens, acne is characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. Acne can sometimes lead to cysts if they become further irritated. Other lesions to be on the lookout for are rashes and warts which persist for a prolonged period of time. If you notice any of these afflictions, please be sure to contact a dermatologist.

Do You Need to See a Dermatologist?

These four signs are great indicators of whether or not you should consider a visit to your dermatologist. Thankfully, most of these conditions are afflictions that can easily be remedied. If you need to see a dermatologist, be sure to schedule a consultation with the experts at Steele Creek Dermatology in Charlotte, North Carolina.
