Medium chemical peels offer pretty dramatic results after just one peel, but patients may see optimal results in the appearance of their acne scars after a few peels that have been safely spaced out.
Recovery
The new layers of skin are sensitive, so they’re typically red and may be tender to the touch. The redness eventually disappears, and patients notice a dramatic improvement in the appearance of their skin. The total healing time for a typical medium peel may vary.
Patients may need to avoid prolonged sun exposure during the recovery phase, diligently applying sunscreen every day, and ensuring the face stays moisturized. Patients are able to return to their normal activities after a few days, but due to the amount of peeling, many people opt to take a week or so off from work/school.
Possible Side Effects
Mild side effects may include redness, manageable discomfort, and minor swelling. Discomfort can be controlled with over the counter pain relievers, and pain medications will also control any swelling. Scarring and long-term skin discoloration are possible but rare.
