Aging skin can appear dry, wrinkled, and discolored. Over many years, skin cells become damaged, and this leads to unhealthy cells. However, when the upper levels of skin are carefully removed, the body responds by creating new skin growth, and this skin is much more even-toned, supple, and smooth.

A chemical peel is an effective way to exfoliate and remove damaged skin, especially the epidermis. We offer superficial and medium-depth peel treatments for our clients who are concerned about the overall condition of their facial skin.

Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are sometimes referred to as lunchtime peel treatments. This is because they can be performed in about 30 minutes, therefore, the treatment can be scheduled around the individual’s other activities.

A superficial peel involves the use of alpha-hydroxy acid. The acid mix is placed on the facial skin and slowly exfoliates material from the pores. The acid also begins to gently blister the upper layers of skin, and the skin eventually loosens and can be wiped away.

A medium-depth peel treatment uses glycolic or another acid to penetrate more deeply into the skin layers. This type of procedure is recommended for those who have mild scarring or age spot discoloration.

It also minimizes the appearance of freckles because the dark, melanin-rich spots are partially destroyed.

What to Expect

We schedule a consultation with our clients to discuss treatment options.

Depending on the severity of spotting or other discoloration, wrinkles, or scarring, we may recommend a simple superficial peel treatment or a more penetrating deep procedure. Both are in-patient procedures and do not require an overnight stay.

The solution is wiped across the face and allowed to set. The client may experience a stinging sensation but will not suffer any serious discomfort.

After the exfoliation is complete, the client may be given a special moisturizer to use over the next several days.

Long-Lasting Results

The peeling and eventual loss of the upper dermal layers take several days. Some redness may occur, but this is only temporary.

Almost immediately, the body sends nutrients to the affected areas to build up new skin tissue. The skin soon becomes much more elastic and supple, and the visual signs of aging – wrinkles and spot discoloration – begins to disappear.

In most cases, a single procedure can achieve the desired results, and a follow-up treatment may not be necessary for many months.

Chemical peels are safe, and side effects such as permanent skin tone change or reactivation of cold sores are very rare.
