What Are the Different Types of Juvederm?

Do you feel frustrated by vertical lines, marionette lines, and smile lines that just can’t be hidden by cosmetics? If so, there is a good chance you could benefit from Juvederm, an injectable dermal filler offered proudly at Steel Creeke Dermatology in Charlotte, NC. What makes this filler special is it is really a line of unique formulas, each designed to be highly effective in different areas. Here’s what you need to know.

What Are the Different Types of Juvederm?

Ultra XC

Ultra XC is the formula designed to augment the lips and rejuvenate the perioral region of your face. This is the ideal formula for you if you want to add smooth, natural-looking volume to your lips while reducing the appearance of deep smoker’s lines, smile lines, or marionette lines.

The best part is 78% of people who receive this treatment are still satisfied with the results after a full year. However, we recommend that you come in for a touch-up after a year to extend the longevity of your results dramatically.

Ultra Plus XC

Ultra Plus XC is similar to Ultra XC in that it is designed to add volume to the lips. However, this beefy dermal filler is injected deeper into the skin than Ultra XC. The other primary difference between Ultra Plus XC and Ultra XC is viscosity. This dense filler provides more volume and smoothness while lasting a lot longer.

Another difference between Ultra Plus XC and other lip augmentation formulas is its versatility. While other formulas may be effective for smoothing perioral lines, this formula can be injected into the deepest wrinkles and folds and smooth them with ease. The best thing about this filler is the results last between 18 and 24 months depending on the injection location.

Am I a Good Candidate for Juvederm Injections?

If you’re at least 18 years old, there is a decent chance that you will qualify for Juvederm injections. However, you need to come in for an initial evaluation to find out for sure whether one or both of these injectables are appropriate for you. To verify you are a good candidate, we will discuss your health and medical history thoroughly. We need to know if you are allergic to lidocaine because the formulas denoted with XC indicate the presence of lidocaine.

Lidocaine is an injectable numbing agent that ensures you will remain comfortable during and after your injections are administered. An allergy test may be required to verify your candidacy for this treatment if you are unsure whether you are allergic to lidocaine. It is also important that you are not pregnant or breastfeeding, have not breastfed recently, and do not have a history of keloid scarring.

How Should I Prepare for My Injection Session?

The injection session itself will be a relaxing, convenient, pain-free experience. However, you need to take certain preparation steps prior to your appointment to ensure it goes as smoothly and successfully as possible. The most important thing you need to do to ensure your treatment goes smoothly is to prevent sunburn and other forms of skin irritation. If you come in for your appointment and your skin is irritated, your session will be rescheduled.

It is also incredibly important that you go a few days without drinking alcohol or consuming products that contain nicotine. Both alcohol and nicotine-containing products will elevate your blood pressure, slowing down how quickly your final results become apparent and possibly affecting the ultimate results of your treatment. Also, it is important that your blood isn’t too thin when you come in for your session. Avoid the following for several days:

  • Fish oil supplements
  • Garlic supplements
  • NSAIDs
  • Vitamin E supplements
  • MAOIs

What Aftercare Steps Will I Have To Follow?

During your treatment, you only have to sit back and relax. However, your responsibilities do not end once you have prepared for your treatment. It is also very important that you take excellent care of your skin once your injections are complete. For instance, you need to make sure that you don’t elevate your blood pressure too much or expose yourself to too much heat. Therefore, you should refrain from intense physical activity for 24 hours.

You should also ensure your blood pressure remains normal by not smoking or drinking alcohol. In addition, it is highly advisable that you moderate your consumption of sodium and caffeine for at least the first 24 hours following your injection session. You will also experience the best possible results if you avoid applying too much pressure to the treatment area. This means you should not wear lipstick or other cosmetics, and you should sleep on your back.
