What Are Examples of Cosmetic Dermatology?

At Steele Creek Dermatology in Charlotte, NC, we are committed to helping our clients keep their skin young, healthy, radiant and stunning. To achieve this, we offer several cosmetic dermatology services, including Botox, dermal fillers, and chemical peels.

Cosmetic Dermatology Services: A Brief Overview

Botox

Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic dermatology services we offer. In part, this is because of its versatility. The active ingredient in Botox is botulinum toxin. This neurotic protein is produced by bacterial species such as Clostridium botulinum. It smooths out lines, wrinkles, and folds caused by hyperactive muscles.

This is achieved by blocking the chemical processes that tell muscles to move. Injections can be performed in as little as a few minutes and require no anesthesia. Depending on several factors, the results of this anti-aging treatment can last between three and six months. You may need to wait between seven and 14 days before you can enjoy the full benefits of treatment.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are another incredibly popular cosmetic dermatology service. Such fillers may be comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), collagen, calcium hydroxylapatite, or synthetic poly-L-lactic acid. Juvederm is one of our most popular dermal fillers because it complements Botox so well. Juvederm treats lines, wrinkles, and folds caused by volume loss.

Juvederm is most often used to treat smile lines, vertical lines, and marionette lines. Comprised of primarily hyaluronic acid, Juvederm treats these lines by adding volume to the sites while hydrating the skin and protecting it from future damage.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are also very versatile. This treatment is most often used to remove wrinkles from the face and hands. However, it can also be used to improve hyperpigmentation, rough skin, scaly patches, age spots, sunspots, acne scars, and acne.

Depending on your skin tone, type, and texture, as well as the aesthetic you are trying to achieve, these peels may include alpha-hydroxy acids, trichloroacetic acid, or phenol acid. You may also benefit from a combination of these chemicals. Here are a few chemical peel options we offer:

VI Peel

Many consider the VI peel to be the Goldilocks of chemical peels. This medium-strength peel is gentle enough for most skin types and powerful enough for most skin concerns. Containing salicylic acid, retinoic acid, ascorbic acid, phenol, and TCA, this peel is designed to restore even skin tone, smooth out rough patches of skin, soften wrinkles and fine lines, and protect the skin from further damage.

SkinCeuticals Advanced Corrective Peel

This chemical peel, like the VI peel, improves the texture and tone of your skin to restore a youthful, healthy countenance. However, it can also be used to minimize enlarged pores and make other cosmetic treatments more effective.
