Acne

Characterized by whiteheads, blackheads and pimples on the skin, acne is most common in teenagers but can develop at any age. As there are similar skin conditions that look like acne, it is important to first schedule an appointment with our medical team to obtain a positive diagnosis.

Which acne treatment is most effective can depend on the individual. Products containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid have been shown to effectively treat cases of mild acne, but at-home products can take anywhere from four to eight weeks to improve skin.

At Steele Creek Dermatology, we carry multiple lines of skincare products that can help effectively treat acne, such as our Hydrating B5 Gel and Tretinoin Cream. Our light chemical peels are also often used to gently exfoliate the skin without further irritation.

Rashes

The most important part of treating contact dermatitis, or a rash, is determining what is causing it. Factors such as lifestyle, pets, work environment, hobbies, and skincare products will be taken into consideration during diagnosis, and a patch test may be conducted to rule out allergies.

Once the cause of the rash has been determined and avoided, the rash will often clear up on its own. But in more severe cases, antihistamine pills, creams or other medications will be prescribed to alleviate the symptoms.

Cysts

A form of acne, cysts develop when pores that are already blocked get further irritated. The infection goes deeper into the skin, resulting in a large, soft lump filled with pus. Unfortunately, these do not usually go away on their own without treatment.

Cysts are generally not painful unless they become inflamed, infected or unless they are punctured without medical supervision. The most effective way to treat cysts is to have them lanced and drained by our medical team, and in some cases medicine may also be injected to fully treat the infection.

Warts

Benign skin growths that are caused by a virus underneath the skin, most warts go away on their own and are not dangerous. But it is possible to have them removed using several techniques. Depending on the size, location and number of warts, they can be surgically clipped, frozen, cauterized or cut. Difficult warts also tend to respond well to some chemical peels.

Other Skin Lesions

There are several types of lesions that can appear on the skin, which can be evaluated and treated on a case by case basis by our medical team.
