Rejuvenate Your Appearance with Chemical Peels

August 7, 2017 by

chemical peels

Our skin is one of the first things people notice when looking at us, and its appearance says a lot about our overall health. If you are dealing with skin affected by wrinkles, scars, or discoloration, you have probably wanted to do something about it, but are confused by the wide range of choices available. One of the best treatments out there for rejuvenating the appearance is chemical peels.

What are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel simply involves the application of a special agent on the skin, which removes the outer skin layers. This coaxes your body into remodeling the surface of your skin, leading to a younger and more rejuvenated appearance.

The depth of a given chemical peel will vary based upon the exact type of ingredients used and the duration the agent is left on your skin. Peels are classified as light, medium, and deep. They have differing pH levels and active ingredients. Chemicals peels are labeled with varying percentages of active ingredients.

Light Peels

If you are looking for noticeable skin enhancement without side effects or downtime, a light peel may be right for you. This is the gentlest type of peel, involving the removal of only the top skin layer or epidermis.

Light peels will brighten your skin and give you a smoother, more even texture. They are made from acids like lactic, glycolic, and salicylic. Some light peels offer results that are similar to a medium peel without the side effects.

Most patients are advised to get a series of light peel treatments for optimal results. The process is not highly uncomfortable, and most patients only experience a slight stinging or tingling. Your skin may display some very minor redness, but you should be able to resume your daily activities immediately after your treatment.

Medium Peels

If you desire more dramatic results than a light peel offers, a medium peel may benefit you. A medium peel penetrates more deeply than the agents used in a lighter peel. It helps treat discoloration, wrinkles, and sun damage. A medium peel does involve more side effects and downtime than a light peel.

Deep Peels

As you can probably guess, deep peels offer the most dramatic results available and can greatly minimize skin problems like scarring, sun damage, and deep lines and wrinkles. They penetrate deeply into the skin.
