How Long Do Chemical Peels Last?

Professional-grade, in-office skincare treatments are key for beautiful, healthy skin. One easy way to uncover brighter, healthier, and glowing skin is by scheduling regular in-office chemical peels. We offer several peels at Steele Creek Dermatology in Charlotte, NC, delivering both long-term and short-term benefits. Based on your needs, we can design a skincare treatment plan using one or more of these peels.

How Long Do Chemical Peels Last?

The results of a chemical peel are both short-term and long-term. While they deliver an immediate form of chemical exfoliation to reveal a healthier and younger layer of skin, they also promote optimal skin health by increasing collagen and elastin production, increasing cellular turnover rate, and promoting optimal skin health, all of which are results that can last months at a time. However, the short-term results of chemical exfoliation typically last about a month, based on the strength of the peel used during your treatment.

Scheduling Your Peels Accordingly

Lighter and medium peels can be scheduled monthly or bi-monthly to promote healthy skin and long-term results. Deeper peels should be scheduled less frequently, but they also can change the skin for the better, delivering results that patients can enjoy the benefits of for years.

Understanding the Skin Cycle

Approximately every 30 days, the skin undergoes a complete cycle, and by the end of that cycle, your skin may appear dull due to the buildup of dead skin cells. Throughout this approximate 30-day process, new skin cells are formed in the deeper layers of the skin and begin to make their way to the surface layer.

At the same time, older cells begin to flake off, and those that remain will act as a barrier between you and healthy, glowing skin. At that point, your skin will require another exfoliating treatment to manually remove those cells with a combination of unique acids to, once again, uncover a healthier and more vibrant complexion.

The Steele Creek Dermatology Chemical Peels

We offer chemical peels for patients with all different skin types and concerns. Our peels use professional-grade ingredients to exfoliate, transform, and perfect the skin. If you’re interested in adding a chemical peel to your skincare routine, we can schedule an initial consultation to evaluate your skin, discuss your concerns, and create a treatment plan to uncover a healthier and brighter layer of skin.

The SkinCeuticals® Glycolic Peel

The SkinCeuticals® Glycolic Peel is designed to gently reduce the signs of aging through a professional-grade peel treatment. It can soften fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture. It will also balance the skin texture, uncover a healthier, radiant glow, improve the skin’s appearance, and reduce aging by increasing collagen and elastin production and reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

The SkinCeuticals® Advanced Corrective Peel

The SkinCeuticals® Advanced Corrective Peel is a chemical peel designed for those who need a more aggressive form of exfoliation to treat more stubborn skin concerns. This peel can help shrink the pores and improve different types of hyperpigmentation, including brown spots, age spots, sun damage, and melasma.

OBAGI® Blue Radiance Peel

The OBAGI® Blue Radiance Peel is a medical-grade peel designed to treat and improve the appearance of brown spots on the skin and promote a more even skin tone and texture. It can help the skin look and feel younger and help patients maintain optimal skin health long-term. Patients can expect results after just one peel and continual results after multiple treatments.

The VI Peel

The VI Peel is a popular chemical peel that is safe for all skin types and skin tones. In terms of peel strength, the VI Peel is a medium-strength treatment that contains a combination of salicylic acid, ascorbic acid, retinoic acid, phenol, and TCA.

This peel is known for its ability to target the most common signs of aging, including lines, wrinkles, and tired-looking skin. The VI Peel can also improve skin texture while targeting the current signs of aging and preventing accelerated aging.

What To Expect

Chemical peels only take minutes to complete. Depending on the peel we use during your treatment and whether you add other treatments to your peel, your entire treatment may only take a few minutes. We can also combine chemical peels with facials and other professional skin care treatments to enhance the results. After your treatment, you won’t have to plan for downtime, but you will need to take extra care of your skin.

It’s important that you avoid sun exposure and always wear quality sunscreen to protect the newly exfoliated layer of skin. Once your treatment is over, we will give you details instructions about post-treatment care directives so that you know which products to use and avoid in the days following your treatment to ensure optimal results.
